Man, how was I suposed to know this would strike such a nerve? This ones gonna flip your wig... I put a honda motor in my john deere. There it is I said it. I'm not hung up on brand just cost, dependiblity, and ease of installation. Thats not to say ford is not dependible, just costs a little more for their crate motors.

Oh that doesn't matter... John Deere sold their soul to Japan long ago with Yanmar. It's OK to put anything you want in there. Actually by using the Honda engine you may have made the thing more American. maybe you should get an award or something...

Later Man...

First we have a Chevy < pronounced Cheby or Chebby on the Darkside>motor in a Ford next we have a Honda being put in a Deere, a Honda in a Deere thats almost a new level past the Darkside. Next thing you know they,ll be racing Toyotas in Nascar. I guess that why we,re called the melting pot.
PS- LawDude I agree cost, dependiblity, and ease of installation is inportant

The full Japanese word for The Sika Deer (Cervus nippon) (Japanese deer) is nihonjika or .......... (にほんじか or 日本鹿).

If this is your first old truck and build...I say go with what makes you feel confident that it can be done. If that means a common run-of-the-mill Chebby engine, so be it. Good luck.

The article I read was out of "Classic Trucks" on installing a Heidt's IFS kit on a 52 Ford F-1. In it they said to measure 17 1/8 from the center of the front shackle pivot to get the axle centerline. What I'm looking for is the measurement on a 55 f100 with a mustang II crossmember and any little secrets like moving it up to center the wheel in the wheel well. (like was mentioned earlier) I wanted to see if anyone did this and had some insight as to how it turned out. I checked the "look here first" but no real directions. On the (dare I say it) gm 350 are the motor mounts welded to the IFS cross member? Would moving the member forward shorten the turning radius? Remember I'm down to the frame so measurement to the fire wall is not an option. (Well could be but would be a real pain) Oh ps the wifes got a batch in the oven. Umm chocolate chip.

I,ve been working on a Heidts Ifs frontend. The measurement on the installation instructions gives the measurement at 19 3/4 which is to the spindle centerline. Haven,t gotten to the motor mount yet. This measurement moves you up to center you in the wheel well.

Hey there Law1, don't let the boys trouble you, besides, based on the last discussion on Darkside vs purists, there are a lot of people here that are on your side. They're just after our cookies and beer. Sorry I can't help you with suspension measurements because I got a complete Chevy under mine.
