First stop? Bondi Beach! I spent 2 weeks there in 1967 and damn near deserted the Army and stayed there!

I have to wonder if things are better "down under" than what we have here? All the BS with the shootings this past week has me thinking about what we are becoming, as a society.

 Something has to be done about the Mental Mind Set that is been ignored for way too long in our society. We are currently facing a generation of young people who have been raised on violent games, the internet and “reality TV” who are now young adults. Young adults who; cannot, will not, or are unable to differentiate or articulate the issues of:

Morals
Accountability
Responsibility
Reality

Or, as I call it: “MARR”. How did we get to this point?

Did we arrive at this point from a combination of outside influence(s) and from modern day parents who raise their children as “Little Adults”? To raise our children not as a Parent but as a “buddy/friend/bff”? To treat our children as adult equals?

There’s an old saying: “Raise your kids as a Parent when they are young and become their Friend, after they have grown up and moved out of the house”. Very powerful statement indeed.

Whether biological or not, two parent family or single parent family, today, more than ever, Kids need positive Parental role models. It’s a tough job at times but it’s one that has to be done.

Whatever happened to the traditional based family unit? Could the downfall in morals in our society today lay in the zest and zeal to obtain social economic status? Do we have parents today, who:
a. Work like dogs to support the life styles they want, and/or think they need, rather than what they actually need at the expense of the children?
b. To live above and beyond their means rather than what they can truly afford. In other words, to coin an old saying – “Keeping up with the Jone’s. Again, at the expense of the children?
c. Or, do nothing at all, live off the “system” on welfare and the kids are nothing more than a nuisance? Let the school teachers and Police raise them…..as long as the “Check” arrives on time.

When this occurs, more often than not, it’s the children who end up getting the short end of the stick.

Examples of parenting today are only as far away as the Television set, gaming console and internet. You don’t have to go very far to see the examples we are bombarded with. For example, take a look at some of the “Reality Shows” on TV these days. You have the Kardasians, the Shah’s of Sunset Blvd., Jersey Shore, the list goes on. A Plethora of anti-moralistic influence out there influencing our children and their mindset as to what is “acceptable/normal”.

When it gets to this point, something has to go by the wayside. Typically, it’s the degradation of the family values and morals that go by the wayside. Compounding this problem are the parents who have become self-absorbed with their own desires and “wants”.

Some parents turn to the “Electronic Nannies” to help their children pass the time, rather than truly being involved with their children. How many people you know, where one parent (doesn’t matter if it’s the woman or man) puts their career on hold or out to pasture in order to stay at home and raise their children while adjusting and living on the one income the other brings home? I can only count a handful that I personally know myself.

Just because little 8 year old Bobby wants an iPod, Cell Phone, the latest iPad and unlimited Internet access doesn’t mean it’s good for him. Little Bobby needs to learn that you sometimes don’t get everything you want. You CAN go out and earn it.

In today’s society, how many parents spend time with their children, doing simple fun things? To teach them about daily life and supplementing the education they are receiving from school? How many parents actually sit down for at least one meal with their kids as a family and discuss their day? How many parents you know set aside time each day to have just family time?

Without the interference of TV, Internet, iPod, Cell Phones and texting?

Since when did we all get to the point of being required to be “Plugged in” 24/7?

If you are a parent, think about your typical day. Is it chaotic, with everyone running around with their own agendas? Kids run through the kitchen, grab “whatever” to eat and are gone, to surf the net, text, talk on the cell phone? Whatever happened to the days where children and Parents were a cohesive unit? Do chores (household tasks) together. Each do their part in preparing a nutritious, balanced home cooked meal?

Children today don’t appear to know the value of work anymore. What happened to the days past, when a kid wanted something, he/she worked for it? Mowing lawns for example. These days, Parent’s spend the money for the “landscaper” to mow the lawn, then give money to little Jimmy to go out and buy what he wants without earning it. What example is being set here? How about Jimmy getting off his behind, get some exercise by mowing the family’s lawn and then mow lawns around the neighborhood to earn money while reaping the rewards of self-esteem, confidence and pride in a job well done?

Instead, we see it more and more – 8 and 10 year old kids with the “Entitlement Mentality”. A mentality that carries forth into adult-hood.

We also see it more and more – kids with no sense of responsibility or morals. Kids who do not show respect to anyone. How do these kids get to this point? They surely didn’t get there on their own.

It disgusts me to see kids with the attitude of “you can’t touch me” in regards to discipline. It clearly states in the Bible how to raise our offspring with love and discipline. However, how would the parents and kids know anything about that? After all, God and anything to do with the Bible has been removed from the Schools of this land. When we had God and the Bible in our Schools, we had a foundation to grow upon. Now, we don’t have that. Whether or not you believe in the Bible is truly not the issue here - you don’t have to be a believer – just simple common sense applies here, telling us that, without a foundation, you cannot build anything that will last.

To make matters worse, Parents today have allowed our Government (both large and small) to implement legislation and laws governing how to raise our children by empowering today’s kids with “rights” in regards to discipline.

Don’t get me wrong here – there are those out there who abuse their children and that’s not acceptable.

But I have a problem with “Big Brother” stepping in (often with clueless and unqualified personnel) to dictate to us on how we will raise our children.

I bring this issue to light, for our system is demonstrating to our children that all they have to do, is make a call, ruin someone’s life and know that “Big Brother” is there to support them.

Whether or not they are right or justified.

It’s this type of empowerment over adults and parents that are leading our children down the road of moral extinction.

Now, there ARE people out there who believe everything is great.

Recently, it was announced on the news here locally, that one of the High School districts was now doing a 5 year curriculum so as to increase the graduation rate. WHAT????? 5 years? What’s wrong with actually educating them?

Or, the one that really got under my skin was a local High School who placed DEAD LAST in student scores for the State, as a High School.

YET – You will like this one! –

Three months later, the principal of that School was presented with “Principal/Educator of the Year” award by the state board of education. Really?! Another example to show the kids……”hey you don’t have to do or know anything, just know someone and you will have it good”.

What are we teaching our kids through these examples? Given enough time, little Bobby will graduate. The question will be: Does he possess life skills? Can he do simple math, read, write and spell? More and more, we see evidence that this is not true.

But hey!

Why should he learn that?

He has a calculator and a computer to do it all for him…..

I went there with $1,000 and came back with $850. The woman there would not let us spend anything! Some of the most beautiful woman I've ever been around.......

I found some of the most beautiful women I've ever laid eyes on also there.....But they are crazy too - but in a good way.

What really got to me was going into a bar. Here in the states there's 40 guys, and ten woman, all with someone else. Over there, we walk in a bar and there's 40 woman, and very few men! Made for an interesting two weeks..........
