Estimated HP

Question,

About a year ago I rebuilt my 360 engine in my 73 f-100 not aware of all of the upgrades as far as 390 parts. The engine only has around 500 miles, so I was thinking of upgrading. Right now I have a .30 over 360, stock heads, comp cam, headers with dual flowmasters, and stock intake and carb. I have been buying some misc parts whenever I find good deals, so hears what I am thinking. Tear the engine down, drop in a 390 crank and rods. Keeping the .30 over 360 pistons. Having the stock heads ported, installing the holley 750cfm with vacuum secondarys I have and an edelbrock performer rpm intake. Any idea with this information what kind of compression ratio or hp I will be looking at? Thanks

Byron

NOPE. You will have to cc the heads (or do it with the heads installed through the spark plug hole) What Heads? What Valve Size? Specs on cam? Exhaust size? Headers? Need way more info to give ya a good answer! otherwise HP could be 150 to 400HP but who knows. JMHO

You also have to see what the current "deck" is, as in, how far the 360 pistons sit down the hole at TDC.

I think that with the stock low-compression 360 pistons (they are dished, right?) and the 390 crank, guys here were talking about 9.5:1 compression ratio.

'73 "stock" 360, I'm assuming D2TE heads?

Also, check what timing set you have, it could be the post-72 360 set that retards (I think) the cam a huge amount for emissions.

I wouldn't worry so much how much HP it will put out - it'll be MUCH MORE than what you have now

What exact cam # is it?

And, I wouldn't go with a 750cfm carb unless you want to wind the thing out way past 6500RPMs. A 650/600 is a better choice (been there, done that).

I will try to check dimensions on the cam whenever I tear it back down. I will also get all of the other info. I would go with a 650 cfm carb, but I already had this one. Got it real cheap from a guy at work, it has never had fuel in it has just been sitting.
