No threads, but it was an easy change. I just drove up onto my blocks on a slanted up driveway which really put my front end high in the air and allowed most of the oil to drain out. Then I filled the oil up to the filler hole, capped it, backed down onto flat ground and then topped it off. I got everything out that I could and it used exactly 1 qt. All I can say is that you should use a synthetic oil since it's only 1 quart.
It is a normal transfer case. So any instructions you can find on the web will work fine. Drain through the lower plug and refill through the upper plug (plugs are in the back facing side of the case where the output shaft comes out). I used 2.5 qts of Mobil 1 ATF or you can use the SP fluid for the trans. It is good to change the tcase the same time as the trans fluid.

I agree with the rock_doctor. I burnt a transfer case up once and synthenic does make them run cooler.

I changed mine this summer and it took 2 quarts, you may want to check your level.
slowmans, you're right, it was 2 quarts on the dot for me. It's been so long that I forgot. It's easy though because you just fill it till it begins to come back out the filler hole.
Is everyone changing it every 30k miles?
Dcaddi2, that's a good link! That's the link I'd found years ago when I initially did my transfer case oil change.
