yes bad voltage reg. Is what id say. Try puting a meter on the battery and have someone rev it to check.

Yes, my vote also. Suggest go to Autozone or whatever and have it tested, voltage that's too high can damage stuff quickly. If you check with meter and it really is over 18, trouble's soon a commin' Happy wiring.
Sounds like a voltage regulator to me as well. You can tear into the alternator or spend the $150+ and go ahead and replace the alternator.

Something is still spiking your meter. So, chances are the trouble is still in the voltage reg which I guess is in you alternator, but I don't know your exact truck to say. Even if you rev engine it shouldn't spike like that. Is your alternator new OEM or rebuilt replacement. You might need to return it and change it out, could very well be defective.
its a 1994 xlt 4x4 i6 its never done it before until last saturday the alternator is a oem replacement from Napa, all my info about my truck is in my sig
Well I can't really compare, my volt gauge don't even work. But I still think it's in the voltage regulator. Even though it's a new alternator they can and WILL go bad.

funny, it did not say new alternator in sig.
that was the kind of info i was asking.
just because it is new alternator, from napa or even ford, does not mean it is perfect.
