Hey guys. My buddy is trying to switch his 92 f-150 2wd into a 4wd by using the diffs. transfer case and trranny out of a 86 f-150. Is this even possible or any certain way to do this???I appreciate all the advice I can get. Thanks
Alex
Anything is possible, but some things just aren't worth the effort. With all the 4x4 f150s around, why not just sell the 4x2 and buy one? Or, better yet, just put a locker in the 4x2.
What motor is in the 92 and what is in the donor vehicle, is he using a manual or auto tranny what does the donor vehicle have. Are both trucks the same body style, is one long bed, one short bed, one extended cab and one not. A little more info about both trucks please.
He is doing all of this because he is getting all the parts for free and only paid $400 for the 92. They are both the same exact body style and both are automatic. The 86 has an inline six and the 92 has a 5.0 v8. This is jus a project to mess around with and have fun.
The inline six and the 302 have the same bellhousing pattern so the trany will fit. It can be done if you have all the parts, another thing is the driveshafts may be different lengths, so get them if you can. I switched my truck from auto to manual and had that problem. As far as I know everything should go in.
