ranger 4x4 knock-thump
Hello all, new user, When I activate my 4x4high. occasionally there is a loud "thump" that seems to come from driverside front wheel area. It's a loud knock, like I ran over something. Not a contiuous knock just a hard single knock, almost like the hub is not locked in, any ideas?

It could be the fron't hub as 2000 is the last year for the pulse vacume hub system. This system is very unreliable as it gets vacume leaks and there hard to pin point as even the hubs themselve's are are part of the vacume system. The easiest and most perminate fix is a set of AVM manual hubs from tellico off road. The manual hubs does away with the vacume and the hubs only sell for around 100.00$. Another possibility could be the drivers side axle shaft U joint, but it should make a clicking noise constantly while the 4wd is engaged.
