I have had an actual problem such as the following. I could drive for anything over 20 miles and everything felt and acted ok. At the end of 20 or more miles I could turn tight right hand corners all day long and nothing out of the ordinary happened. I could turn tight left turns and lose the truck and my bearings in a hurry due to the volume of oil smoke coming from my pipes. Any wonderful Ideas on what is happening here? 79 f250 460 cu in 2 wd headers dual exhaust, 72 timing gears and recurved dizzy,725 holley on it with a performer intake and a 260H comp cam. Balanced and blueprinted all the way thru . All smog stuff removed and making huge mileage (18-19/canadian gallon. No Ill effects but the left turning oil smoke. Any input will be appreciated. Thanks.
just a theory, don't know if this could even be possible, but is the pvc tube on your back right hand valve cover?
if the baffle is missing there is a possibility that in a left hand turn all the oil in the cover is being sucked up by the pvc tube into the carb and causing the smoking.
is it smoking out of the pipes and if you have duals both pipes?
the only other possiblitiy i can think of is that the intake gasket didn't seat properly and in a left hand turn the oil is being foreced into and intake port, but the truck would always run rough (vacuum leak) and only one or two cylinders would show signs of oil consumption.
do the left hand turn, shut off the motor and pull the plugs. see what cylinders are burning oil.
Thanks. The baffle is in and it is not going thru the PVC. It has dual exhaust with an H pipe, so the smoke does come out of both sides of the exhaust. The intake leak is a possibility for sure. I will have to check it out.
When I pulled the intake manifold there was plenty of oil sitting in the top of the windage tray. When i turned left the oil sloshed over and was indeed entering the motor thru an intake leak on that side. it was weird that it only burnt oil turning one direction. The original windage tray did not have a hole in it and the vacuum leak had worked it up and down till a crack was made in it. Oil would get sucked up there and sit waiting for a left hand turn. Once the new cam is installed and I get her running again she wont be blowin the blues. Just aint Totally sure to even remount the windage tray tho.
