I just want everyone to be carefull on the trails, there was a very bad accident happen this past Friday at Wheeling in the Country offroad park in Tennessee. A guy from Alabama in a rockbuggy turned over and lost his left arm. I don't know his name but I did talk to him about 10 min. before it happend very nice person and so was his other friends that was with him from Alabama. I send prayers.
i know a guy who missin one arm i honestly cant imagine what id do if i lost my arm...i drive a manual truck and big rigs all day...that would be tricky...
wish him goodluck and a solid recovery...hopefully he will be back rippin it up soon!
it just makes me cringe everytime i see someone who spent 5 grand on their motor, but couldn't spend 1 and get a proper cage put in.....or uses chains for recovery......or has no seatbelts......or on and on.....if your gunna play...you'll pay one way or the other....
I believe you can reattach limbs, but there are many different variables in determining the ability/mobility/useability of the damaged limb. if they do reattach it then he may never have complete use of the arm. Plus you have to consider how the limb was severed in the first place, and amount of trauma caused to surrounding tissue/amount of blood loss/risk of infection, etc. he may have permanent nerve damage. I am curious too on how this came about. Plus, was it severed at the shoulder, elbow, forearm?
The fear of loosing a limb/appendage/life is why I have a serious FEAR of working on a running engine(like timing it) and being under a jacked up vehicle(even if there are jackstands)....You can never have enough jack stands under the vehicle if you ask me...
Hopefully this makes others aware of how serious safety should be when wheeling/having fun....

dont become a heavy duty mech...i gotta roll around under 9000kg vehicles on nothing but 6 jackstands and work on rather large running motors daily lol it gets intersting
I have found out that Vanderbilt hospital in Nashville Tennessee had to remove his left arm
it was too damaged to fix. he was in a full tube rock crawler and his arm got caught under the cage when the buggy went over. The buggy did not roll on over it slid down the hill with his arm between the rocks and cage. He is at home in Alabama I am trying to get his name and address so some friends here and I can maybe help out with some money or anything he needs. I have heard he is a single father with 2 kids and will be out of work for sometime so we are going to try to help. We didn't know him, I did talk to him just before the accident.
as this great sport grows, we all need to emphasize, embrace, and practice safety. too many people think they are invincible in their trucks and do stupid things. there should be a sticky (if there isn't one) on here emphasizing safety tips, tricks, rules, etc. theres a saying we had at work, all accidents and injurys can be prevented. i thoroughly believe this. it's too bad about the guy loosing his arm. something probably went wrong that he didnt anticipate. safety should be the top priority.

At my line of work, I usually get injured by very painful and devastating papercut and the occasional staple-my-finger mishap. I think that should qualify for Hazzardous-Duty pay!!! I enjoy working on trucks, thats why I dont have it as a career. Then it would seem like that is all Im spending my time on-it may get boring/monotonous and I wouldnt want that to happen.
Plus, I dont think this incident is a result of gross negligence or bad judgement. As stated before, it was a slide down a hill and his arm got crushed between rocks/cage. Sometimes there is no way anticipate some things. A person can be following all the possible safety precautions and still become a victim.

One of my buddies is a mech for the oilfield, and he says they have motors that run for 6 months straight. I asked about what about oil changes, and he said you won't believe me, but we change the oil with the motor running.
