Hey everybody new to the site here, and I think its great so far! I need some serious help. I have a 72 bronco and I am putting a 351w in it and I need help with installing the transmission! Its the three speed column shift! Dont know much about a trans so I need help any info, PICTURES and such would be great step by step would help alot or if anybody knows a good drivetrain manual for these broncos and where to pick one up would also be great! Thanks for any help.
Just install, I know it seems minor I have just never messed with a trans much and I bought the truck with the trans sitting on the back seat so I dont have much to go by.
Easy, install the motor into it's mounts first. You could install the flywheel and clutch before you put the motor in or after. Next, stuff the transmission in. Support the trans and slide the t-case in. Install your x-member. Hook up linkages and misc. stuff. Really quite simple actually. If you have anything more specific please ask. I just got done swapping a 302/C-4 into a 6 cyl model. I also have a V-8 '70 with the 3 spd in it, minus motor. It's on my car hauler and easy to get pix from underneath. Good luck!
If if isn't already, you will want to install the adaptor onto the transmission. This will keep the trans output shaft in place.
After you have the transfer case installed, but before the crossmember would be a good time to mount the t-case shifter. You can drop the rear of the assembly down a bit for access.
Don't forget the spacer that goes between the engine and bellhousing. And the pilot bearing in the back of the crankshaft.
I find it easier for me to put the T case on the trany while it is down and use a tranny jack to slide the whole thing into place. Always stab it pretty much the first or second time..
This does not work on my one ton very well though.
