Auto 4x4 ?

I am a new Explorer owner and have a question about the auto 4x4 button on my 2004 Explorer. Do I need to push it each time I drive in inclement weather? Or does it work automaticly?
Also since I have purchased the vehicle I hardly read anything positive about them, any one have positive remarks to share about their explorer might help me out!

Welcome to FTE.

I take it you have a V6. Automatic 4x4 is just that. You may or may not feel it kick in, depending on the surface. Things might have changed for an '04 vs. my '98--mine has the rotary switch, and auto is the standard setting, then 4 hi and 4 lo. If you are in snow, you might consider 4 hi, otherwise, in most road conditions, automatic should have you covered.

Yes, Exploders tend to take a beating here, as this is a good place to find fixes, so many who come here have a problem. Things to look for... I'm going to stop right there as I don't want to go through the list--you asked for positive comments.

Positive comments...let's see... I got free tires twice. Still solid at 85000 miles. Plenty of power. Decent radio. Split-fold down seats mighty handy. Oh, there are more.. Oh, for mine: Paid for.
