I have an 02 Excursion Limited 7.3PSD. I drove to Monroe, LA this past Thursday. The whole way there, every time I would stop for a redlight, then try to take off the engine acted like it was going to stall. When I got there, I changed the fuel filter. It has ran fine since. Today I was driving around town at lunch, and it stated acting up again. Is it possible that the new filter is already bad? Maybe I got some bad diesel, and it keeps clogging up my filter?
Possible, but unlikely, unless you've been running biodiesel lately. BD will clean out gunk from your tank & lines and could plug up your filter, but that would be ridiculously fast. Not impossible though.
Common problem is the CPS (Cam Position Sensor). Ford has a grey one, but that can cause it's own problems. Get a black one (DP-Tuner.com or local International dealer - part# 1821720C99) and try it. It's always good to have a spare. You'll need a screwdriver (maybe) and a 3/8" drive ratchet, short extension (3" maybe) and a 10mm 6-point socket to swap.
