My 5.o has started making a LOUD noise out of the blue , it kinda sounds like a typewriter except 1000 times louder. First thing i checked was the timing and it checks out ok then i took the serp belt off and started it and the noise was still there. Noticed the motor oil is starting to turn white also. It starts up and runs just fine hasnt lost any power & doesnt miss but i just cant figure out what to do next,im limited on tools since im 200miles away from home so i dont even have a compression tester to put on it. Codes ive gotten are 11,10,33,40,52 any ideas on what to do next? Sounds like the head gasket has let loose to me anyone else had this happen & thanks for any help.
Thats what i figured to i just noticed it when i checked the oil today, wonder how much damage i can do to the motor if i drive it another 60 miles , cant believe how loud it is.
All I can recommend if you're going to drive it' is to change the oil in it. Atleast you'll have fresh oil for better lubricity and put in more water so it won't overheat to bad on you and if it does pull over right away and let it cool down and baby it. If it's real loud you may have also thrown a rod.
If its allready got a knocking sound in it, you're looking at a full rebuild. If you do drive it, change the oil like frankyford said and also leave the radiator cap loose (on the first click not all the way closed) That way you wont build up as much cooling system pressure to push more coolant through the blown gasket into the oil. Just bring water with you to periodically top it off as it leaks out.
Guess i will just start making plans for a motor swap then, i had hoped the typewriter sound was just from the headgasket going . I couldnt exactly isolate where the noise is exactly coming from but it sounded like it was coming from the side with the bad gasket. Thank u both for the info.
