Dual exhaust for a '85???

I would like to install dual exhaust, prefered from the engine but will settel for after the cat if it cost to much other wise. My question is where do I get a good kit? I have looked in some catologs and most only have them for 87-up and mine is a '85, what (if any) difference is there in the exhaust from a fuel injected truck and mine? (by the way I have a 351)

Oh and where are these people getting these big, slash cut stainless tips I see around here?
Thanks

Dual exhaust for a '85???

I have a 93 F-150 with the 302 that I had duals put on about 3 years ago. I went after the convertor and split the duals without any mufflers. I put on the tips that you are talking about. They have different names, but I call them Echo tips. Mine came from the dealer and cost about $35/ a piece.

I put true duals on my '82 F150 with a 351W. I purchased 2 small universal cats from DynoMax, took them to my muffler shop and he did the rest. You can put either the chrome or stainless tips that you've seen, but the stainless will last longer. Oh, and be careful with the exhaust, get aluminum or stainless. I've seen some economy exhausts rust out within 6 months of install. If you have dual tanks, the shop will have to fabricate a cross over to run down the passenger side to avoid your front gas tank.

now you just bought the cats, right? I would prefer to buy a kit and install it my self (the local muffler shop charges $50 a hour plus parts!) If you don't mind me asking, arround what did it cost you, maybe I'll look for a better muffler shop and do what you did.

Look for another muffler shop, preferably one who doesn't carry a big company name. I found a garage down in the city who ran duals from the manifolds of my T-bird for $117 and it didn't even leak!

Not cheap! They had to make there own collectors, brackets, cross-overs, etc. Cost $300 muffler tips. Lifetime warranty, and a great looking job. (I guess it had better be for that price!!) Everything was aluminum, heavy gauge (I forget at the moment what gauge), 2 1/4" mandrel bent. Put on a Flowmaster (dual in/dual out) 50 series and it sounds awesome!!!
