Yep, the home team lost 15-3 this evening. In football, that'd be almost a competitive game. In baseball, it'd be the kind of blow-out you'd see a handfull of times during the season. But in hockey, it was downright brutal. I try to take in a few U of Wash. Husky Hockey games a season, and they're usually pretty good, but not tonight. It all went wrong. And usually, that sort of thing doesn't bother me very much. Everybody gets humiliatingly blown out at least once, but when it's done to you by a team that brings with it very mediocre sportsmanship, it's rather disheartening. Now I'm not saying the Huskies were without their share of penalties, but the general attitude of the Weber State boys was dispicable. I was glad I had no children at the game, for even though I sat just one row from the top level, I could hear a constant buzz of profanity from the opposing team and even their fans. It's really a shame that officials don't crack down on that more. Back when I played and when I coached football, it was an embarrassment if the refs got involved, for it was a shame on the coach for not training his player better. I would see guys get pulled and we would pull guys until they learned to swear at a level the fans couldn't hear.
Sorry that this gripe doesn't flow real well, I'm usually pretty good at that, but hey, like I said, you gotta have a weak day here and there.
