Hi,
Has anyone ever installed a MSD upgrade on these tucks? and if so what do you do with the old wiring hard ware? like the Duraspark box on the fender wall and the wires going to the coil? The MSD tech said to remove them but.....um yeah so if anyone has done this help me out please.
thanks
jim
OK, so I installed an MSD 6A box and yes it will replace the original duraspark box on the fender. The new set-up will have a new wire than will run to your coil and a new wire that runs to your distributor. What you will need is a new coil to match the box and new heavy duty spark plug wires to handle the load. I also had my distributor recurved to the 15'' wheel size I'm running and my axle ratio of 4:10 and one wire removed to be compatiable. I was told my original distributor is electronic ignition which is why one wire was removed. Not sure if you have the same ignition set-up. As far as what I did with the original duraspark box goes...I tossed it in a box full of retired engine parts...lol
i run a msd pro billet distributor,a 6-al box with rev control, and Aroura 9 mm plug wires. its a bit over kill for the average street vehicle. it works well with my engine 428 scj. the engine is not stock,so for me its the hot ticket. the msd set up is reall easy to install. they come with easy instructions. you basically remove your old wiring and start new. my truck was too old to have electronic (dura spark) ignition. msd has a tech line on their website to help if you need it too.
