Just some info, in case anyone was wondering. BFG (manufactured by Michelin)has changed the ubiquitous "All-Terrian A/T". I just got a new set of these and took the truck out for a short drive offroad. If anything traction is improved on sand (hardpack, deep and soft), gravel, and rock, I didn't get to try out any mud because I couldn't find any (havn't had any rain in my part of NJ for like 2 weeks). They took the word "radial" off the tire sidewall, softened the rubber compound just a tiny bit and changed the small slots in the lugs (to improve wet traction on the road, though I havn't tested it). On road handling is unchanged though they seem quieter than the old "radial allterrians" I had. Overall I'm very satisfied.
They have a done a lot of other upgrades to the already awsome AT.They have strenghened the sidewalls at the bead, and added extra rubber to protect the rim.One of the members of a 4x4 club that we Wheeled with this weekend, had a set of them aired down to 5Lbs on a Wrangler, for some rock crawling. They were very impressive. The tread at the side blocks, look like a Mud Tire, and they added a lot of siping to the entire tread pattern. They are also using a new rubber compound, and it was gripping like contact cement.I watched him on slick rock,(some of it wet),loose gravel, deep loamy soil, and shallow sand. The tires worked as well as my Swampers,(also on a Wrangler)in all situations. We dont have any Mud out here in Ca. right now either. He says they are quiet on the road, but he only has about a 1000 miles on em.I,m hoping he will enter it in a mud bogg coming up in a couple of weeks,so I can see how they do,I dont think they will compete with Swampers or Bogger tires in the mud,but who knows? "Very Nice Tires" I wish they made them in a 36 x 16,I would use them on my F250 for everything but Competetive Mud Bogging. The 36" Super Swampers and 38" Boggers on my F250 sound like Im flying in a crop duster when doing 80 on the Hwy.
Enjoy those tires, get em muddy and let us know how they perform.
