Sorry for asking this again but I thought I'd try with a different title. Has anyone run 285/75's or 295/75's on the stock 7inch X 16 inch Ford rims? If so how are they wearing? Any problems with handling?
Thanks for any information, I'm starting to look for a new set since the rears are starting to look a little thin. I may get ~ 25K on the originals before I have to replace them and I'm at 20K miles now.
There are people over at http://www.ford-diesel.com running larger tires on the stock rims and I haven't heard a complaint from them yet. If I recall some of them actually said the truck handles better with the bigger tires.
I own a 99 F-250 SD SC and had no problems mounting 295/75/16 BFGoodrich All-Terrains KO's on my stock aluminum wheels. Clearance was no problem at all. The truck came with the towing package(235/85/16),and now it handles the rain and the beach much better!(295/75/16 are almost equivalent to 33-12.50)
Thanks Paul. I've corresponded with several folks who have mounted 285/75's on the stock rims but your the first with 295/75's. Have you put many miles on these tires yet and if so how are they wearing? Two or three folks have mentioned buying new 2000 SD's on which the dealer has done the swap to larger tires before they even pick up the truck. One new owner even mentioned 305's from the dealer. I wonder if the 2000 SD's have a wider rim than 99 or if 7 inch rims are really OK despite the tire manufacturers specifying 7.5 or 8 inch minimum? No responses on the 2000 rim width question yet.
Steve
I have had my tires on my truck for approx. 2K miles. The wear should be the same as stock because all of the alignment angles stayed the same(solid font axle). As far as 305's they also will fit on these rims but will rub on a very tight turn.If you want 305's you will probably have to use a Goodyear(JUNK)tire,or a more aggressive tire such as M/T or Swampers. The rims should all be the same width from 99-00.
