Hi all, I need some help with a 83 2wd. It has the smallest 4 cyc engine in right now. I would like to keep it running. The problem is I can't find an replacement engine for it. My questions is. What engines can be put in a 83 none EFI ranger?
A 2.3 4cylinder and thats a lot of them around, they were used in pinto's, fairmonts, mustangs and rangers, even T-bird turbo coupes.
x2 .......Any carbuerated 2.3 will drop in with a minimum of fuss, Except the 2.3 turbo from the T bird. While quite a few are done, it takes a lot of wiring and plumbing that most folks wouldnt be comfortable with.........Find a 2.3 from a Mustang with the 2bbl holley/weber carb, any year 79- 85 will do nicely.
The 2.3 was even used in one brand of inboard-outboard, with a Ford 'marine configured' 2-barrel. I don't know if it was set up to rotate the 'wrong' way... That would have been in the early 1990's.
There was a 2.0 engine used in the mid 1980's, looked just like the 2.3 but had a smaller bore. Try to get a 2.3 if you can.
This is the first year of the US built Ranger, right? With the same cab style used for the next umpteen years?
