I have a 2000 F350 w/7.3l. The high pressure line ruptured (rubbed on a bolt) on the power steering line running from the hydraboost to the steering box. I replaced the line, but I can't seem to get the system bled. The steering doesn't whine anymore but when I push the brakes, the system whines and my pedal goes soft. I had no brake troubles before the line blew. I've looked for leaks in the brake system but there are no visilbe leaks and the reservoir and full of fluid.
After the 'whining' I check the power steering reservior and it is full of foam.
Does the hydraboost system need to be bled? If so, how? I searched the forum and had no luck finding anything that talked about a hydarboost system.
The system should bleed itself. You probably lost the P/S due to the foam. Let the truck sit for a while and let the foam dissipate, refill, and see what happens.
How far did you drive the truck with no P/S fluid ???? A mile or 2--no problem. 20 or 30 miles, and you might have burned out the P/S pump.

Ron,
I had the front wheels off the ground and would turn them full left and full right a few times, and then let the truck sit for a couple hours and check the fluid level. I did that for a couple days with no luck.
I only drove about a mile to get a load of hay. It was fine on the way over, but on the ride home it was acting up. The truck sat idleing for about 1/2 an hour between. Hard to say how long it ran with no fluid.
