How long do BFG's really last.........

I'm planning on getting 30" allterrain BFG's for my '82 stepside (2X4) I was just wondering how long they really last, being a teenager, and smokin' 'em every once in a while. Right now I have cooper street tires, that are 9" wide, and I just want to hear how they would compare in handling, on and offroad. How about the noise level?

Well it's been several years since I had these on the truck, as I recall they lasted very well(35")I think I got around 50K out of 'em. Noise was very low compared to the Baja's that they replaced, although I remember they did make some noise when on the highway. Traction was great in snow on the street, off-road they were OK unless the muck got deep, they didn't clean themselves unless you really spin them, then they dug. Overall, for street and mild off-road I think these are good tires. Loose stone/coal dust piles were never a problem nor was sand. Biggest problem was keepin' them balanced, mine picked-up every little stone on the trail and held it in the tread, just for XXXX (edited by Admin for by passing language filters)s and giggles I weighed the stones I pulled out of one tire and it was almost 7oz., drove and rode much better after they were cleaned out. I haven't had these for at least 6 or 7 years, hopefully someone else can add some more recent experiences to this. Chuck P.

Save your money and buy another tire especially if you plan on smoking them. The BFG AT was the worst AT tire I ever put on one of my Ford trucks. The newest version (2nd gen) AT is somewhat better but the ride, handling, and braking specs on this tire are poor. Wear is inconsistent. I have had friends who got 35,000 and some with 25,000. I would imagine you to be on the lower side. A great all around AT is the Dunlop Radial Rover AT or ATV. They ride great, stop quick, and are quiet with an agressive enough tread.

Smokin your tires will not make any tire last at all. All-Ta's suck & only do good on the street for normal driving. Mud T-Ta's are the only way to go, besides who cares about sound it's a truck ther loud the way they should be!!

Currently running BFG MTs, 33-12.50-16.5.Just turned 30,000 mi. on them and have about half tread left. A friend has metric size ATs with about 70,000+miles. I say BFG R AOK!

How long do BFG's really last.........

Hey guys, I was hoping, you guys might help me out, a little bit more...... How do those BFG Mud Terrains hold up? When I meant "burn out", I didn't mean locking the front wheels up, and shootin' flame off the rear ones....

I just meant makin' noise off the "line"

Thanks guys,

If you run the BFG's M/T's and rotate them regularly you should be able to realize about 60,000 to 80,000 miles. But that will vary with your road and use of them. They seem to hold up well on the driving conditions here in Alaska, we have very little good roads and alot of wash board dirt roads. The BFG M/T 33x12.5x15 here runs around 147 dollars and I am able to get what I feel is my money's worth. I have used some of the Cepek's and the Mickey's and the rubber compound seems to be too soft for our road and driving conditions and are used up after 30,000 miles. Hope this helps.

BFG mud-terrains are the best pull like crazy in the mud don't hum too bad. i got a set of 32 11.50's on my 85 4x4 ford and they have 46,000 miles on them probably looking at getting another 10,000 out of them so i definitely recommend them.

I agree that the Firestone Wilderness AT's are the worst tire you can buy, with general driving I only got 25,OOO out of mine. I'm now running General Grabber ST's and I must say that they are a GREAT mud, snow and wet weather tire plus they have a 60,000 mile warranty! Just my 2 cents!!

yo gang!
I have friends who have 150's and broncos. I took their advice and bought Goodyear AT-S.
It has a good ride quality and is not too noisey. They don't hold stones either and are great for the beach..I put them on my 96 Bronco .. 32x11.50 x 15"..
lousy when hitting puddles though.
I paid $145.00 each, complete at a local tire store.

Good luck,
Al

They are dangerous too... they give whoever the lay 4x4'er a false sense of security. The last snow fall (which was in early April) I saw 2 vehicles upside down in ditches with tires facing heaven... guess what tires they had on ? The one Explorer had 3 treadworthy and 1 almost bald (on the inside) Wilderness A/T.. the other vehicle was a brand new Ranger with brand new Wilderness A/T's... THEY SHOULD NOT BE ALLOWED to call them All terrain tires when they are horrible in every situation except one....dry pavement!!

WOW those Goodyears are really expensive.. I got my BFG's for only $110 each.... as for General M/T's Im trying them next!!! I saw the Grabbers and wanted to order them but by the time I had the $$ for them I had to have tires pronto.. inspection time and the Wilderness A/T left front was not passing... They actually wanted me to buy another one!!! I ran next door to Natl tire and bat warehouse and they didnt carry (any) M/Ts in stock so I went with the next best thing for the $$ BFG's A/TKOs they are awesome!

I had BFG 31x10.5x15's and did a little "burning" of the line and on got 30,000 out of them, Now I'm running TSL Thornbirds(33x11.5x15's)in the summer and got 20,000 miles on them with the same amount of "burning" and there still 3/4" tread. For winter driving I got 31x10.5x15 goodyear GSA's and they ROCK!!! 40000+ miles including snow plowing and they are still half tread....
