a friend gave me a used kodak easy share cx6200 camera because she got a new one for christmas. this is a fairly new area for me. I have taken pictures with it and downloaded them on my computer, but that is about the extent of my ability. I need a memory card for it,if that is the right terminology for the card to put in the camera for more picture capacity. Are these universal or will I need to find one specific to my camera? right now without the card the camera only holds 8 pictures,I need to make that more. Is there someplace cheap online to get the cards? I saw one at walmart the other day for $54 but that seemed kind of steep and i wasn't sure if it was compatible with my camera or not. thanks for any ideas!! Ben
I have had a few Kodak digital cameras, they will usually take a SD memory card and sometimes they might take one other card....
From the KOdak website support"Your camera has 8 MB of internal memory. However, optional SD/MMC cards provide removable, reusable storage for pictures and videos.
goto walmart and get the largest they make. you will enjoy.
A number of years ago I was working for a CNC control maker and we used CF cards to hold a stripped down linux distribution - at the time 32mb would do it, but 64mb was nice to hold large intercon files. about the time I left 256mb was coming of age.
now - you can get 4-8gb for a price that makes them cheap stocking stuffers. (2 xmas ago I gave out 1gb pen drives cuz office depot had em for $10 each after a rebate)
It appears from looking at the Kodak web page that you can use an SD/MMC memory card up to 2GB.
According to your user's guide, you will get between 149-595 pictures on a 128MB card depending on the resolution and quality you choose. So a 2GB card should get you about 16 times that. More pictures than you could probably take at one time.
SD Memory cards are pretty cheap and easy to get. For example, from Amazon.com, a 2GB Kingston SD card is $7.05 with free shipping.
Kingston is a pretty decent brand of memory cards. The other most commonly used brand is Sandisk.
Edit: As Quaddriver says above, you can get these things anywhere electronics are sold. Wal-Mart is usually a good source. However be aware, that if I'm reading the Kodak web page correctly, 2GB is the largest your camera will use.
Looks like a lot of good advice from everyone so far. Like David mentioned Kingston and Sandisk are both good quality brands, I've used cards from both in everything from cameras to my phone and never had a issue.
cjben, does your computer have a built in memory card reader? Several newer machines have them built in, even if its a single slot universal type deal it'll read the very popular SD cards. If your machine doesn't have a card reader you can get several different universal readers that plug into a usb port. If you need one of those I found mine at Walmart a couple years back, was hanging right by the memory cards. If I remember right it was 20 bucks or so then, although I'm sure they're cheaper now.
Walmart's a bad choice for buying memory cards, they cost about 2x more there than what you can get online. Go to newegg.com and you'll see tremendous deals plus reviews from users. I purchased an 8 GB micro sd card there for $15 nearly 6 months ago, and I'm sure they are even lower now. You camara manual should list the card type, probably supports SD and SD HD (high density, preferable because its faster).

my computer is 6 years old,so I doubt it has a memory card reader. I do have the camera dock for the camera, that is how i download pictures off of my camera onto my computer, works good, the dock just plugs into a usb port and downloads the pictures when i push the button on the dock. thanks for the help, should be easy enough to find what i am looking for!!

If the camera is more than a year old, I'll bet it will not support SD/HD. The new drives are backward compatible, but old ones are not upward compatible. An older camera may also not support the MicroSD, even with the adapter.

I just went through all this. We bought a new HP laptop with Vista Home Premium. My camera which was about 6 years old used a very large data card twice the size of the SD cards. My card reader wouldn't work with Vista & because of its age no drivers where available. Heck the cards aren't even made anymore. You know it is old when the people in Best Buy aren't sure what your talking about.
Anyway we bought a new camera with an SD card because our new computer has a slot for it. We bought an SD card with 4 GB for $12.95. If you get a card I would suggest getting a reader & with the reader you can just remove the card from the camera & plug in the reader after downloading software on your computer & bring up the pictures, saves on camera batteries. Readers start at about $20.
I prefer Best Buy over Walmart better selection, better prices, & people who know what is going on & can advise you & guide you in the direction you need to go. Best Buy isn't the cheapest but I have had good luck dealing with them.
I just spent all day trying to clean up my garage and now its a real mess. Got motors under the bench that I havent seen for years.Transmissions torn down waiting on me and a project car that was demoted to a shelf for box`s of I dont know what. Its so bad that I have to stack stuff so high that I feel sorry for the bottom storage container.I guess with a new year I should get all my stuff in order and start getting those projects back on track.I just wished that I didnt have to sleep and I had at least one more arm.You all be safe out there.
