Body Lift?

I've been looking for a suspension lift for my 78 F100 2WD without any luck. It needs a new suspension and I wanted bigger tires. Since I couldn't find any kits, I turned to a body lift. I've heard some bad things about body lifts so I didn't know if I should get one. What do you guys think. Would a body lift look bad without a suspension lift or should I go with some add-a-leafs and coil spring spacers. Thanks for your help.

Body Lift?

Body lifts have their advantages and disadvantages. For heavy off-roading, they are not good because the added leverage on the blocks will cause them to break. By heavy off-roading, I mean high-speed on bumpy roads, rockcrawling, and anything that requires a lot of suspension flex. However, for a cheap alternative to a suspension lift (or in your case, not finding a sus. lift) a body lift should be fine. You will have to extend a bunch of things under the hood (brake lines from the master cylinder to the frame, steering linkage, shifters, fuel filler neck, etc) to fit, but a good brand name kit should come with all the brackets needed. Also, I have seen this on a few trucks (I believe Toyota uses them from the factory), they are little plastic skirts that cover the gap in the fenderwells caused by the body lift. It makes it look cleaner.

If you are not going to use your truck for severe off-roading (I assume not since it is 2wd) then go with the body lift and don't worry about it.
