My dad's 94' F150 has developed a severe rod knock and lost compression. I am going to replace the 302 next week with another 302 I was wondering if someone could tell me what year 302's will interchange as far as my intake and accessory brackets will fit. I would think that at the least the 85' up truck 5.0's would work since they are both fuel injected. I also need to know this because the 302 in my 96' isn't far behind. I am a jeep guy so any help is greatly appreciated.
Any 5.0 will bolt in there under your truck intake and accessories, that includes a 5.0HO from an '87-92 Mustang or Cougar, the Explorer 5.0, or another truck 5.0. I suggest you avoid the Crown Vic motors and the pre '92 truck motors as they were the lowest output of all, but if that's all you can find it will do the job. You could also swap your '94 cam into whatever other motor you find as long as the block is '87 or newer.
I just found a low mileage 351 and was wondering if that would be a straight bolt in or if injectors or the computer would need to be changed. If anybody has the answer to that one let me know. If to much is involved for the 351 swap dad told me to just rebuild the one that is in his truck.
It's an overstatement to say that any 5.0 engine will work.
Well... technically that's not what I said, I said "Any 5.0 will bolt in there ".. which is true. You are right though.. there are additional concerns for the early carb motors which include the change in primary balance(1981), the fact the EFI motors require a different cam than carb motors, and that the real early motors... late '60 - early 70's... require leaded fuel and/or modification to reduce CR.

If your '94 is mass air and the 5.8 is a complete EFI motor then it's relatively easy. If you don't have mass air you'll need a 5.8 computer, and if the 351 is a carbed motor you'll need a 5.8 EFI intake, distributor, fuel rail, and exhaust manifolds, and the Y pipe has to be widened.
