6.9 liter problems

I have a 87 f-250 with a 6.9 liter diesel with no turbo. it has very little power in acceloration and it is running rough. i have changed the air and fuel filters with no help. i have been told it is probably my injectors. any help would be great.
Thank you
Josh

Hi jadams65, welcome to FTE!

I would ask you question here, at the portion of the site that deals specifically with the pre-Powerstroke 6.9L and 7.3L diesel engines.

My personal opinion, try running seafoam in the fuel filter. I personally had great luck on my 87 6.9. i had no power, 3-4 mpg, and a ton of white smoke at all times. After just running the one can in the filter, i have a lot more power, about 14-16 mpg, and i see some black smoke at times. But as i said, this is my own personal opinion and experience. A lot of the guys here say Not to use the foam.

It's a cleaner for, it claims, all engines. I know O'reileys carries it. It cleans the carbon build up out of the engine. For gassers it gives the instructions on the can. I have used it on my wifes 96 jimmy, daughters 97 and 99 cherokees and my 87 6.9, with good to great results on all.
