I don't know the law explicitly but you can drive a pre-side marker-light vehicle without legal trouble. Removing them from a vehicle factory equipped with them is a different issue. That sounds illegal. I wouldn't myself for more then one reason.

Is anyone else old enough to remember vehicles before side marker lights and reflectors? If not, you would be surprised how dark a car is at night from the side. You DO NOT see them until you're on top of them.

I wanna see and be seen in my vehicles.

DOT regs, and FMVSS clearly (or not so clearly if you've read them. ) state..

1946-1948 and newer cars and trucks must have two brake lights on the rear, and working turn signal lights, both front and rear.

1967 and newer model pickups have to have back-up lights.

Pickups, cars, and trucks built after September 1967 and newer. (1968 model year) has to have side reflectors. Red Reflectors on the back sides, including the rear, and amber reflectors for the front.

September 1969 and newer (1970 model year) Must have marker lights, along with the side and rear reflectors.

September 1972 (1973 model year) must have windshield wiper switch, headlamp switch, and automatic gear selector illumination.

September 1992 (1993 model year) and newer pickup trucks and SUVs must have a third high mounted stop lamp.

And that's just the stuff off the top of my head.

And as much bondo that has to be in that thing, i wouldn't want to get that thing on anything else than a very level surface. If that thing even tried to flex, bondo would start cracking. And that paint is nice so I wouldn't want huge cracks in it.

Oh man. :/
The kewl mods most like on here, I don't. :(
I thought maybe this time would be different. :)

Well it is different except again I find myself thinking opposite from the
crowd as usual.

I kinda like it... the pickup reminds me of a bump side which is my favorite
pickup body style. There, I came out of the closet. Shoot me.

I went to buy me a brand new pickup but I was too late to get a bump side,
for some dangged reason, Ford had decided to change the body style on me
two years before. ;)

Special ordered my dent side in late November '74, I was 21 years old.

Didn't even think of Bondo.
Before seeing the picture...
I pictured "nicely welded sheet metal". :)

He could have welded in the factory recesses -if- he'd of used sheet metal.
So, maybe it is friggin full of Bondo? :(

For all we know he might of used sheet metal and done it right. To think that just because someone is young therefore stupid is ignorant. See my signature for an explanation.

what if they don't work?

I have back-up lights on my truck. if I have them plugged in and I put the truck in reverse and then back in 1st and drive off the back-up lights stay on. I know this cause one time when my dad dropped me off at work I watched him drive away and the back-up lights were still on. so, I always just leave them unplugged.

That sounds like a bad switch on the trans or steering column.

Just take 'em off! LOL :)

When I lived in DC (high school, VA side) I had a VW bug that didn't pass
inspection because the bumper-mounted backup lights didn't work.

Went home took 'em off and went back and it passed. :)

Gov't bull$%@, ain't it cool? ;)

If you want a ford get one and make it look like one. if you want a chevy than go but one, but dont ever make a ford look like a chevy bad idea.

Then you could get a fixing ticket. At least around here.

It's either a switch adjustment, or a bad switch. Should be easy to fix.

I like that Hillbilly Deluxe pic, too.

Alvin, funny story. since the truck is exempt from inspection (25 years or older) the inspection guy doesn't have to check anything. he just slaps a sticker on there.

where do you live 81-F-150-Explorer?

we were gonna fix the switch one time, but we looked up how much the switch from NPD costs and it was like $40. dad said "we're good friends with the cops."

I know it's a bad attitude, but when I get the ticket then I'll fix it.
