True mileage

Hello I purchased a 1994 F250 XLT Super Cab with a 7.3 Turbo Diesel and a manual transmission. It was a farm truck and the dash was taken apart and I would like to know the actual mileage. The title says 180,000 but the odometer say 139,234. The shop thinks it has more mileage than that but I would like to know if my truck has a computer that cannot be changed and can get the actual mileage.

Thanks for all your help.

Jared

The computer does not store odometer milage. If the truck has a history of ever being taged in a state with inspections that would show milage or of course service records from the prior owners or service shops would have records with milage but I cant see the need for the actual numbers because the condition of the truck is all thats inportant now.

Purchase a Carfax report for it, it'll show the last reported mileage at any service place which reports to Carfax (and many do, including Ford).

Are we sure the computers dont store mileage. The reason I ask is the computers on our semi's do and you can pull actual mileage no matter how many times the speedo or odometer has been changed. This probably is so you cant change the odo to get warranty work done would be my guess.

You asked and I answered,Yes IM sure Duh. A semi isnt the same as a private dealer sold vehicle made for regular NON COMMERCIAL USE. Car Fax is not reliable all the time. Know a guy that bought A CAR that had been in a serious wreck and Car Fax had NO data what so ever to show it. Car Fax is a selling tool made for sellers and used to make buyers think it is just for them not so Why not just call any dealer and ask.....you will be told the same thing

CARFAX is just a tool, sometimes it is appropriate and works, sometimes it doesn't. When you fix your trucks, you don't use only a 1/2" box-end wrench, do you?

The '94 stores the mileage in the PSOM electronics. If the speedo was swapped out, so was the mileage. Also, if the tire diameter was changed, and the correction factor wasn't, the odometer will be off.

I asked a question because I didn't know everything that is stored on the computers and presume all manufactures are not the same on every thing.

As far as carfax I've never used it always bought my vehicles the same way I did before carfax came around. One of the benifits I got when I turned 18 was to make my own decisions and get took if I screw up.

Welcome to FTE greenbrg.
starmilt, Don't let Shipboy get to you. He doesn't know everything either. Just to point out I know of semi tractor units that are for "NON COMMERCIAL USE" IE: pulling large RVs. And any private dealer sold vehicle can be used commercially.

Why do you care how many miles it has on it? You already own it. With it being an old truck, condition is more important that miles. Mileage doesn't matter at this point.

Carfax has a buyback guarantee if DMV-reported incidents (salvage, fire, flood damage, odometer problems or lemon history) are not shown on their reports. I have used Carfax and passed on many trucks because they did not have a clean record. I highly disagree with you, it is a tool for buyers as well. There is no way to know 100% if a vehicle has had prior problems, but Carfax doesn't narrow down the possibilities. I've seen many vehicles listed that looked great and then ran a Carfax only to find the odometer had rolled over more than once, it was a flood vehicle, had been in a bad accident, etc.

Sorry for not getting back sooner, I do love the vacation.

But the reason why I wanted the mileage is because I have cars till the junk yards don't want them. I fix everything, and love modifying them. I tend to get work in progress vehicles and love fixing them up. I bought a VW Golf for $100 and have replace about everything on it. I have a great story about NAPA and VW, but I just want to know how know the mileage because my diesel does not have electronic injection and the computer is not that smart, plus with an manual 5 speed I have no electronic transmission (if that was available that year?)

I bought 4 KC lights this weekend and am going to wire in the High beams to two of them with a relay and have the other two on a switch in the cab. I cannot wait till the LED lights that are on the HMMWV's and FMTV's get on the market, those things are sweet.

Right now I am just getting the truck back to a reliable work horse. I noticed the cruise control does not work, I have not checked the fuze yet but I hope that is it.

Does anybody know of a good place to get 1/8" exhaust temps sensors from? I want to put a before and aft sensors around the turbo.

That leads me to another question. The shop says my turbo is in need of some help, any good shops that have core swaps so my truck won't be down that long? I would like to get some more boost so I can get a little more mpg but I don't want to spend a lot of a good turbo. Right now I get around 11.7mpg and I hate having two small tanks (15 gallon). I love that fact that I have two tanks but does anybody make a larger under the bed tank? I like having my bed clear of crap and only have the tool box and the goose neck in it.

Well I think I have enough crap on here that you guys and talk about.
