Have not had any major problems with the Expy since my bout with the COPS at 78,000. Had to do a wheel bearing hub on the passenger's side last year (pretty easy). Now, as I'm about to turn 110,000 miles I roll down the window yesterday (pretty nice in Houston right now) and hear all kinds of bad noises (and now something is rattling around too). Know something major is wrong and since the window is in the up position I don't mess with it.
Immediately came to the forum and searched and found the diagnosis of bad window regulator with some very good instructions on how to replace. That info and my factory service manual disc gave me enough courage to order the part and plan on a repair.
Probably be a couple of weeks before I tackle this, I'll let you know how it goes. It's a pain but the truck is still good enough to keep repairing vs. buying something new.
go for it! Dont be surprised if the original regulator is riveted in place. If it is, drill them out and put the new regulator in with nuts/bolts. Good luck
I did it! Followed the instructions I found on this forum, used my shop manual and spent about 1.5 hours and presto.....my driver's door window is good as new. Saved myself about $400 I estimate over the dealer repair.
Actuator was shot, one of the cables was broken, motor was fine. Repalcing a bad motor would only take about 5 minutes vs. the actuator.
I'd be lying if I did have a few concerns when I first got inside the door, but taking things slowly and following the instructions....things fell into place nicely. I could do it again in about 45 minutes.
