Howdy folks, I am looking at a '87 F-150 4X4 302 Auto 150k for $750.
runs alright seem to be an ok old truck.
in the event that I need another engine, I'd like to know if I could go with the 300 6? I have always been a fan of this bulletproof engine.
So, feasible idea? pipedream? plain old stupid question?
Any replies welcome, you ain't gonna hurt my feelings.
It's doable, and it's better suited than a 302 for the F250. Would I do it, no. There are several reasons. First being that in '87 it's not emissions exempt yet. Second being it's a lot more involved than just swapping it in. You'll need the engine, wiring harness, computer.
Emissions shouldn't be any problem since the engine that is desired was an available option in that model year, so long as when swapped into the truck, it is equipped as it would be stock (EFI, etc.). It would be rather easy with a donor truck of the same or similar year.
