Rancho shocks

I have a set of Rancho 5000's on the rear of my 85 bronco. I am going to be adding heavy duty springs on the front to bring the front up to where it is supposed to be from added engine and tranny weight.

Are the rancho 9000's with the adjustments a stiffer shock than the standard 5000 series. I know the 9000's are adjustable!

Rancho shocks

When I switched over from the 5's to the 9', I thought the 3rd or 4th position was about the same. Position 1 is very soft and 5 is stiffer. Usually run 3 to 4 on the front(460 up there, did make 'er a little bit more top heavy) and 3 down to 1 as the fuel level drops-44 gal. behind rear axle. This is on the street, off-road, well, that just depends on the situation, but, usually don't run anything more than 1 for slow trail riding. Have the in-cab split f/r contoller, can be a pain when it won't hold air(about once a year), but much nicer than crawlin' out in the mud/snow/slop to adjust them, no problem in the front, have to go under the truck to get to the rears. PS-I think they/I need some kind of filter for the air compressor intake, seems to pick-up dirt/moisture and gets stuck in the check valves. I just replaced these for the winter, yearly maint.!

I will add that if you do go with the 9000's, definitely add the incab adjuster. On my 95, I have 4 9's in the front, 2 in the rear, and no adjuster. The front ones are easy to adjust, the rears are a big pain.
