Hello, Im up from the 7,3 IDI (pre-powerstroke forum). I need to know about the activation time the glowplugs stay on.
OK. On the IDIs (diesel engines before 94 1/2ish) the glowplug relay is only supposed to be activated for 10-15 seconds from the key being first turned on. After 10-15 seconds it shuts the glowplugs off when they get warm from measuring the resistance of the glowplug system. OK
Well, Im working on a 1996 powerstroke and the glowplugs stay on indefinatly while its cold. Do they stay on until the engine reaches 115 degrees then deactivated from the block temp sensor or is the PCM supposed to shut them off when the glowplugs get warm. Thanks........
Ok thanks. I checked it out and sure enough it stayed on for about 1.5 minuits and went out. I just didn't wan't to cook the tips off the glow plugs. Its not my truck and didn't wan't to put more in it, then theres no profit for me and a upset customer. Thanks again and have a great day.
