hfcm questions

Anybody know why they eliminated the heater in the HFCM on my '06? Seems like it would help a whole lot in really cold weather.

That's a good question and the only thing I can figure out is that the bean counters at Ford must have seen it as a way to cut costs. Same way with the under hood insulation, wheelwell splashguards, etc. Funny how they delete equipment that was standard but raise the prices at least 3-6% or so every year isn't it? Love my truck but to replace it with a 2008 or 2009 model similarly equipped would be about $8k more than mine was in '04.

According to ford, they found that in certain climates the heater was causing condensation to build up and cause rust to build up around the fuel pump housing.

Kind of makes you wonder though, why they stopped putting them on all of the trucks and didn't just do something like the winter grill covers that are standard with trucks shipped to certain states.

It was probably cheaper to eliminate the heater then to make the fuel pump housing out of stainless steel so it wount rust out.
