I would like to fix my windows, they both are doing the same thing on my 89 F150. They lower fine, when you go to raise them you hear the electric motor but the windows will not go up. It sounds like they are trying to catch but not quite. If you grab on to the windows and pull up while someone pushes the buttom the window will then go up. They will drop about an inch by the end of day.
Any suggestions?
Ok there's a couple things you can do one is going to your local autoparts store and replace the whole window motor which runs about $60 each and most likely have to give them your old ones so they can rebuild them. or you can open it up and just replace the inside three plastic peices this is causeing your problem, they've dry rotted and broken up into little peices which runs about $25. i just replaced both in my 91 f-150 it's easy enough. just when you take the motor out you have to becarefull when you drill out the rivits.
Kyle,
Thanks, I bet you are right on the money. The one thing I left out was that my motors had froze up so a mechanic friend to a pipe and a hammer and hit them, they worked for about a week after that. Was is hard to pull out the motor. I already have the door panels off.

My guess would be that your motors are shot... you can do it yourself but there is a rivet you will have to drill out and replace... you may be able to use a bolt to replace the rivet but not sure.
Ok yeah you have to drill out the rivet but what i used to replace that is a mechined bolt short enough to not ineterfear with the door panel, and a aircraft nut(one's with plastic in the middle). Make sure you shim the window so it doesn't fall when you take the motor and bracket out. and all you have to do is wiggle the motor and bracket out of the door and remember how you got it out it'll help when putting it back in.
Opps forgot to say when you have the motor out hook it back up to the switch control and test it if it rotates fine then like i said it's the little plastic peices if it doesn't then the motor's most likely burned out. when the plastic peices break a part it can't handle weight hence why the window wont go back up.
