Hub locks.

Hi everyone!Have a quastion to you guys,is it good thing "Hub Lock" in all Superduty Trucks?I think (and not just me) its a very bad idea. Why Chevy,Dodge,Toyota etc. use simple metod and even have a better millage? When I need 4X4 i have to stop my truck, lock front hub...I think its very unkomfortably. Thanks

with locking hubs, you disconnect the front drive-line. with the full-time hubless design that the other guys use, the front drive-line is always spinning, reducing fuel mileage and increasing maintenance costs.

locking hubs are a good thing to have.

Yes,Chevy,Dodge,Toyota etc. front drive-line is always spinning and they have much better fuel mileage, even with front drive-line spinning. When I disconnect the front drive-line my fuel mileage vs fuel mileage other guys (Chevy,Dodge) with full-time hubless design will be very different,I mean very bad.Why Dodge,Chevy with full-time hubless have better mileage than my truck when I disconnect the front drive-line???

because the other guys lie.
a dodge 4X4 with the hemi engine and auto trans only get 12 mpg.
my step son has one, and 4 other i know have them. they all get the same thing. 12 in town, and 14 on the highway.
and all the people i know with chevys get about the same thing 12-14 in town, and 14-16 on highway.

ur comparing all kinds of disimilar variables..

if u want to not have to manualy engage ur hubs, u can get a ESOF truck, but most people would rather use manual hubs if given a choice..

That's what I meant....put some numbers out there. I know guys with all those makes of trucks you spoke of and the mileage isn't better than the SD. Dodge is about the same. The others worse. My next door neighbor has a Tundra, he's happy to get 13mpg around town. I get around 16-17 doing the same and 13.5 pulling 4 tons. Last summer I was working with a guy with a duramax and he was loving the power, but not happy with the mileage. Never could get over 14. Nice truck though. Rode much better than mine, so there are always tradeoffs.

that's what i mean. the guys claiming the 18-20 mpg plus are lying through their teeth. a 2 wheel drive diesel?? yes, i can see them getting 18 mpg. but not a 4 wheel drive with full time hubs.

Why you don't understand me?Yes,18-20 mpg,its diesel,Dodge-Cummins,and they don't need locking hubs (like Ford),because front drive-line is always spinning, and if you whant 4X4 just shift it,thats it.Another story with Ford:if you whant 4X4 first what you need is: stop vehicle ,lock front hubs-the front drive-line in this case start spinning when you drive (without 4X4),go back inside, then shift 4X4.Yes I know you have two choice manual lock hub and elect.,I prefer manual. But I'm not talking about lock hubs,I mean front drive line spinnig,Dodge (for example) have always front drive-line spinning (without 4X4) and has better mileage than Ford WITHOUT front drive-line spinning. ----Dodge Front Drive-Line always spinning=Good mileage----Ford Front Drive-Line spinning (lock hubs) =Bad mileage----,Ford WITHOUT Front Drive-Line spinning (unlock hubs) =Good mileage--,--but not so good vs Dodge WITH Front Drive-Line always spinning.Guys its easy to understand me.Thanks

and what i am trying to say is those guys are lying to you.
i have never seen a dodge diesel 4X4 get over 15 mpg, and that was on the highway with the cruise control set at 65 mph.

i know alot of people that have them.

I understand you,yes on 4X4 its impossibly to get 18-20 mpg,but its possibly to get around 18-20 with front drive-line spinning, without 4X4,its 4X2 but front drive-line always spinning,in this case I mean Dodge diesel.

Because fuel economy is effected by more than just a little bit of parasitic drag.
