86 f150 5.8 carb.3 port.did a search and helped some.fills from rear to front tank.gas gage seems to indicate correct on both tanks.can hear a clunk from valve.do these get stuck half way-can they be cleaned out.i know the newer trucks had a recall for a 1 way valve but nothing for the older ones.thanks for any input,

Fuel going from one tank to another does seem to be a failure mode some of these fuel valves have. Taking it apart sounds like something I would try, but I have never done it before.
I have an 86 F150 4x4 with the I6 300 with a carb.
On my truck.....
Selecting the front tank will energize the fuel selector. The rear tank is the normal (non-powered) position for the 2 in 1 out selector valve.
I picked up a spare selector valve at the junk yard. It doesnt look like it is repairable to me. Good luck
