When I test my glow plugs to be sure, I have 12 v at the plugs... right or wrong, that's what my meter shows. I don't have a truck with the newer controller to see what it puts to the gp's. So I was going on what I had been told elsewhere, which I can not validate or deny... It might be they use different resistances due to the change in glow plug powering...
Actually all the 6 volt plugs do in a 12 volt circuit is heat up faster.
The new style system also puts 12 volts to the glow plugs.
The relay in both systems is interchangeable, the difference is the new style system has the controller mounted below the relay.
Since the wirng harness is the same wire size in both the new and old style systems, the voltage drop will also be the same when all the glow plugs are hooked up.
