Friend of mine is looking at a 04 F250 4x4 King Ranch edition with 150K miles. Automatic. Owners says he's never pulled heavy with it, but mentioned he has replaced the ball joints 3 time already.
I know this is the first year the new 6.0 came out, what do we need to look for on the truck that commonly goes out or is a troubled spot? The price is pretty good, almost to good, said he just needed to sell it to get cash.
Any suggestions or things too look for is greatly appreciated.
2003 was the 1st year for the 6.0 I replaced my factory joints at a little under 100,000 I guess it all depends on the road conditions. Ball joints don't like pot holes.
The best place to start is to run an OASIS report. If that looks fine to you, then take it to a mechanic or dealer you trust and have them go through it.
Get the greasable BJ's next time. Top BJ's you can grease- well, mine I can. You just need to remove the small threaded plug and put a zerk in there, a real PITA. I used a 90 so I could get the tip of the grease gun on it, then I removed it, I only had 1 that was the right one, and greased the other side. You can take a dremel to the 90 deg fittings and grind enough to leave them in, just have to make sure they clear the axle u-joints or they'll get broken off. Bottom BJ's I leave zerks in. Agreed with Oasis- priceless! You don't want an out-of-warranty problem child
