Hello i havent been around for quite some timei have been busy on Club3g.com. finally bought a new project truck. It is a 1982 ford f-250 ext cab long box 4wd. It is a monster of a truck. As you might have seen it has a 351 windsor 4 barrel and thats the reason i purchased the truck. I plan on taking the motor out and building it and in the future drop it in a fox body mustang. My question is does anyone have any experience building a budget windsor?
i will probly take the Stroker route but any suggestions would help! looking to make over well over 300 hp. Thanks in advance
Stroking the engine would not be considered a "budget" build would it? I thought that was rather expensive.
The engine you are getting out of this truck is ok, but it's really nothing special. The factory puts a 4bbl on a engine and gets a lot of advertising mileage out of it, but there is nothing else special about that engine, it's pretty much a run of the mill 351w.
It's common knowledge that the heads on a Ford are it's biggest problem when producing horsepower, so any money you have should be thrown in that direction.
If you are going to put it in a lightweight mustang, I think I still would spend about $1000 on some new heads. Of course you might get better info on one of the mustang forums. If it was going back in the truck, I think I would agree on the stroker kit.
The 351 needs heads, Ford should be slapped for putting the tiny little E7's on these motors. Without changing anything else you could have 350hp no problem depending what heads you get.
wow. i was really scared when i found out the numbers for this model year it is around 190hp.. so i didnt know how easily i would put up decent numbers. i will move this thread over to a stang site.. thanks alot guys!
Truck guys don't get hyped up over hp numbers, they are looking for torque numbers. At least the ones in the know do. Trying to beat this in some people's heads is futile.
