For the individual that wanted Original Rims for his truck, I believe these will work.

Yes, they will bolt on and take the original hubcaps but I'd verify if they are really 15's before bidding on them. At only 4.5 inches wide they could be 16's. Most of the 15's I'm familiar with are wider than that...

Another thing to consider is the size of the center (hub) . I recall using (50's) Plymouth wheels on a (50's) Ford or Ford wheels on a Plymouth. Anyway, the center hub was too large causing stress cracks on the lug holes. I heard them creaking first.

Where are the clips (mount on inside of wheel center), or tabs (outside of wheel center) to mount hubcaps?

No see um...

Some Ford hubcaps are called innies, because they snap into clips located inside the wheel center.

Some Ford hubcaps are outies, because they snap over tabs mounted outside the wheel center.

I see no innie clips or any place to mount them on these wheels. The clips were riveted to the wheels.

Where are the tabs for outie caps?

IMO, no way to mount hubcaps-these are not Ford wheels..these are prolly Jeep wheels-they did not used hubcaps originally (1940's/1950's).

1948/56 & 1957/63 truck parts catalogs do NOT show any 15" wheels that are 4 1/2" wide. 5" is the narrowest width listed (there is a 16" wheel that's 4 1/2" wide).

1949/59 passenger car wheels are 5" wide, the bolt pattern is 4.50."

Most 1948/66 F1/F100's used innie hubcaps.

1948/56 hubcaps are innies, the diameter isn't listed, but I've owned 3 1956 F100's, so I know the caps (B3C-1130-A-red or 6A-1130-A-blue letters) are innies only.

1957/60 F100 hubcaps are innies = 9 5/8" diameter / Most 1961/66 F100 hubcaps are innies = 9 1/2" diameter.

If you look closer you will see the nubs on the inside. That's why I said they would accept original hubcaps...

I put my nose to the 'puter screen and still can't see them, mebbe it's my eyes, they're 63 yers old!

At 4 1/2" inches wide, the wheels are prolly 1939/48 car.

No big deal...my eyes are older than yours! Wouldn't 39-48 wheels be 16 inch?

They don't look like Ford to me. I can kind of see the inner nubs but they aren't as pronounced as Ford.

i have a set of 4 original 16" wheels from my '49. they have the "innie" bumps. i'll probably sell them locally but i have no idea what to ask for them. if they are in decent useable condition are they worth $5? 10$, more?? i want to pass them along but i don't want to give them away. sorry if this is considered a hijack. dick r.

Rim Interchange

I am putting a '94 explorer rear end with drums and front discs on the straight front axle under my '50 F-1, with the the bolt pattern being 5x4.5
1) Are there any stock rims available that are 16" 5x4.5? If there is such a thing would they accept the hubcaps and trim rings from the stock 16" 5X5.5 rims? If there is a 16" 5x4.5 rim what widths would be available?
2) I know there is a stock 15" rim, 6" wide, 5x4.5. Is there a stock 15" 5x4.5 rim available in a 8" width? Would this combo accept the same kind of trim rings and hubcaps?

They are removed for whatever reason from fleabay.

It took me a while to find the set that is on my truck. Most of them I got for free. I think I paid $5 for one out of the 5.

I assume they are the proper wheels anyway. I guess Bill will tell me soon enough.

They really need to be blasted and painted, but they are fine for now.

Bill, This thread sent me out to measure the wheels that I took off my 49 F-1. I know that they were not the original wheels since I wanted 15" wheels that took the original 49 hubcaps (nubs on the inside). I bought them in CA back in the 70's when I lived in Campbell. They are the 5.5" B C. I thought that the 15" came on the 46-48 Mercury. Well I went to measure them and three were 15 x 5 and one was 15 x 5 1/2! I ran those many miles not realizing the one odd width, in fact I drove the truck crosscountry in 1978 with the one odd wheel (see early pix in my gallery). Ignorance is truly bliss! So all that said, what were the two different wheel from?

These early 15" rims were also used on the 6' utility trailers that U-Haul and everyone else used to rent.

Brian, it looks like it's about time to do another Col. Flashman special.

He painted his Merc M100 with RED Rustoleum...didn't you use the same stuff?

Looks to be the same shade of red as the Colonel's truck...which has been in my driveway and garage, and I have the oil spots to prove it!

Merry Christmas, Happy New Year.

The front fenders and the roof were polka dotted with all sorts of colors when I bought the truck. I spray painted them red. Just the .99 cheap stuff from wal-mart. It was supposed to be temporary.

I do have the drivers side front stripped, patched, and in epoxy primer now.

I ended up broke and now its wet and nasty, so they will stay that way until spring.
