One my 74 Super Camper Special (SCS) I'm having to replace my tires, the problem has arose about the 16.5 rims. I know this issue has been talked about before, I would like to know the best solutions. I do not want to lose my width in the rear they are 33X12.50R16.5 and the fronts are 9.50R16.5. I also would like load range E's, I can find them for the front the rears are where I'm running into the problem. I can find D's all day long, but E's are another story. Right now I have a rear axle that can handle 6800 but tires that can only handle 5830. TIA

may i ask why you want the wide tires in the back? My father bought some for his dodge no to long ago not sure what brand but whe have an 11 foot camper and a starcraft 22 ft fiberglass boat and we hall them together all the time with no problem. I really don't think you will find a wider profile tire with a heavier load rating.
had similar experience, although my wheels were not stock, but were 33/12.5/16.5. After a bit of searching, I found a retreader who advertises in the back of one of the 4x4 enthusiast magazines. providing your casings are OK, they will recap them for a reasonable(read cheap) fee. As an aside I will mention that I have never had an unpleasant experience with re caps, and I ran them exclusively for many years. I personally solved my problem by changing to 16's simply because they are much more available in my area, and I was thinking of the long term. Another point regarding 16.5's; when the air pressure gets low the bead separates extremely easily from the rim. not so with 16's. I will try to dig up the name of the retreader in case you want it.
I would like 16's but I like the width, the problem with the retreads is that the tires I have now are D's I need E's but can't find and for the rear. I may just have to convert it to a dually.
