sway bars ?????

Has anybody installed them ? hows the results ? did you do both front and rear ? where did you get them ? I sure ask a lot of questions don't I ? (oops, that was another one....wasn't it ?), anyway, did it help eliminate any body roll ?

sway bars ?????

Put Addco 1" bars front and rear on my 96. Took about 1 hr. each to install (plus another 2 hrs to put on the correct Ford spring perches with the sway bar mounting eyes). Cost me $139/bar from www.shox.com. No effect at all on ride, big effects on handling. Much more stable at speed, less front end wander, corners flatter much less body roll, etc. Just do it, you'll like it. Do NOT put on just a rear bar, the handling can get a bit twitchy.

Please take into consideration if you install sway-bars you will loose a few inches of flex, no more than 4 inches at the most. Worry about this if you do alot of 4x4in, if not go with the sway-bars, you will like them!

sway bars ?????

Hey Strange, are you telling me I have to change spring perches to mount a swaybar on my truck? You REALLY know how to ruin a guys day don't ya

Also, since you're the resident techie-guru, calculator-casinova, engineer-type dude.......I have a question for you relating to changing tire diameters. Here's the scenario:

Stock was 3.08:1 gears with 29" tall tires and I planned to install 35's after the lift install. So, using the formula:

(new diameter/old diameter)*gear ratio = new ratio

or

(35/29)*3.08 = 3.7172

Well, as I'm sure we both know, a 3.73:1 gear won't get my truck down the road very well. So, I figured I'd substitute 3.55:1 for the original ratio since the 3.08's offered no real thrill anyways.

(35/29)*3.55 = 4.2845

So, here we have a much more "reasonable" ratio of 4.30:1, but knowing how off the first one was, how reliable is this one? I know this formula doesn't take into account for added rolling resistance, unspring weight, etc. so has anyone come up with a viable +/- ratio to compensate for this? My 4.56's do fine, but if the 4.30's will work just as well, I'd gladly welcome the slight MPG increase they would offer.

Traildawg stick with the 4.56s if you're going to run 35"s of tire. Anything lower and I don't think you'll like the loss of torque. Also when looking through my latest SummitRacing catalogue I didn't come across a 4.30 ring and pinion gears. Man 4.56s ought to haul some #####!!!!

The 4.30 gears are a Ford Motorsports part (FMS-M4209G430) on pg. 252 (February 2001 issue of Summit Catalog).

4.56s with 35" tires are about like 3.73s with the stock 29". Something around 2050 RPM @ 65 MPH in OD.
