I recently sold me h2e to buy a gt42 that I told was a direct swap except needing to oval out some hols to make the 42 fit, no problem. I ovaled out the holes and get the turbo on there and realize the pedistol neeeds to be lifted off of the block to get the downpipe to fit and all. well in order the get the dp to line up I need to lift the pedistol which requires making the uppipes longer.
I talked this over with kris myers my bestfriend and very smart diesel mechanic and he said it would be best to sell the 42 and buy a k31. but since I already have the h2e sold and paid for i really dont have time to sell the 42 to buy the k31 so i can get the h2e shipped, (hes already paid me for it)
Do you guys think it will be that hard to make the 42 work? I will add bellows in the uppipes to make them longer which it needs anyways so they can flex without cracking. to lidt the pedistol I can either make spacers the put underthe pedistol to lift it up and longer bolts or make longer brackets off of the pedistol which I think will be difficult to get to line up right and all. Either way I will need to lengthen the oil lines I think. Sound too much like work? or should I try it? I honestly dont think it will be too hard and have all week and nxt two weekends off work. and plus, the gt 42 is already paid for : )
Can you guys please give me your opninions, thanks a bunch!
I can't think of any reason not to follow Kris's advice. I'd be worried about the extended oil lines leaking. Blow out an o-ring under high boost and you'll be replacing the 42 anyway.
Sometimes it's wise to listen to a very smart diesel mechanic.
