hello, I am in the process of removing the 302 from my 1995 F-150 and hit a slight snag. The efi fuel lines coming in at the engine have a weird fitting connecting them and Im assuming a tool is needed to disconnect them. Being I wont be able to get one till monday, is there any way to disconnect the lines without the tool. I would just cut them but its braided line so connecting it back up might be a problem...suggestions?
take a peice of old metal fuel line or copper tubing cut about 5 inches off of it. Slice it up one side. Open it up so you can fit it over the metal line on the truck and slide it into the fitting where the braided line connects to the metal line. Push your tool you just made into that fitting to release the clip that holds them together. Lots of swearing helps. The little tool is much better but I did it like this once. Try to push the two hoses together a bit to get the tension off the clip.
Sears sells this tool as does Advance, Auto Zone , etc., for less than $10
It is hard to do with the tool, and I would guess really hard with a homemade one. If your homemade disconnect tool does not work, I would still not cut the line. This is a high pressure fuel line, not like the old carb days with low pressure rubber hose and clamps. Getting it reconnected after being cut and having it leak free for the life of the truck could be very difficult.
Good Luck Frank
