I have a draw-tite trailer brake controller on my truck that I have never used to tow anything with. It is the electric type that has a dial on it to change the amount of pressure you want to put on the trailer's brakes. Normally when I hit the brakes a dot on the screen lights up. But for some reason when it is raining or wet out the screen displays O.O or if I turn the dial up whatever setting I put it to. Is this normal?
I would check your wiring out for good clean connections, it could be that if there is moisture present in your truck plug, your controller could be sensing some slight continuity between the power to t brake wire ( usually blue or black ) and the ground...( normally white ) wire. There may not be enough continuity between them to be read as a short and there will be no amperage or load but, moisture in the plug cavity can cause a slight amount of current travel un connected and the controllers these days can sense even a slight amount of voltage / current travel. A wet environment without good heat shrink on your wire connections can also create a very slight current draw... hope this helps? Also most newer controllers send a slight ... very slight current to the trailer brakes when connected every few seconds to "let the controller know" there is a trailer connected to check itself for proper connection and readiness to react to the drivers inputs.
