O.S.T. Thread.

OFFICIAL STORY TOPPER THREAD.

If I may be allowed to, I would like to start the official story topper thread. I know I've only been on this board for a short time and that's why I am asking permission. If their is another thread like this. i.e. "Bitch Thread, Gripe Thread or Guess What I Found Out Thread" then please link me to it.

Otherwise, here goes:

Conditions: Winter, snow up to your knees, living in a rental house in a fairly new town. No WAY to pull the beast in the garage for the needed repairs.

Problems: (ALL WITHIN THE LAST COUPLE OF WEEKS.)

First the 4 wheel drive system goes out at the beginning of our first big snow storm.

Second while on a 175 one way trip to Kayente AZ, the tranny and emissions lights come on.

Third, just for craps and giggles I check the tranny fluid level while out @ Peabody Coal Mine(175 miles from home) and there's not even fluid showing though last month I changed it with all new everything.

Forth, I forgot to plug her in last night(dumb ***).

Fifth, while coming home yesterday the Battery light came on and this morning it would not stay running, so I had my beautiful wife follow me all over town for the emergency jump start that I would need if it died again. Pulled up to Vatozone and ask if the could test my Alt? "Not in this weather"! It's not even snowing you jack ***......... you just missed a sale. Then went to Checker Auto Parts and they said their Alt checker was broke. So I said screw it... bought the Alt and now my wifes car is stuck in the snow at Wally World and I can't get to her.

AND

Sixth, while I am changing my Alt out, which BTW is awsomely easy because of Fords belt tensioner design, I hear a leak coming from the coolant rez and look down to see small bubbles coming out at the seams.

This is my first and probally last Ford I will ever own. I am a Jeep Wrangler guy or a Honda or Toyota owner.

DO THE FORD ENGINEERS DESIGN SOMETHING IN TO THIER PRODUCTS THAT DETECT AND THEN PROCEED TO "MALFUNCTION" WHEN YOU JUST HAD THE CRAPPEST DAY OF YOUR LIFE, YOUR KIDS ARE GETTING POOR GRADES, YOUR WIFE IS TELLING YOU YOUR NOT DOING ENOUGH AROUND THE HOUSE, BOTH OF YOUR DOGS HAVE EXPLOSIVE DIAREA AND THE DOGGY DOOR IS BROKE AND YOUR SALES COMMISION CHECK WAS THE LOWEST IN YEARS?????????

...anyway top it if you can.

Bryan

Funny, I watched a Jeep Wrangler go up in flames on the side of the road with an engine compartment fire yesterday.

Can your Ford top that?

You bought this truck Repoed or wrecked didn't you? If a vehicle has been mistreated then that is what you get any vehicle that isn't maintaned and is just ran to the ground will give you all kinds of trouble.

No... I repoed it. And yes I know that's what I get. I actually know the guy I pulled it from. He was a contractor and didn't beat the crap out of his vehics. But it's the little stuff that's all going wrong all at once that just gets to me.

Bryan, this only happens to you because you make too much money.
just because you know who you pulled it from doesn't mean all the required maint has been completed. It's an '02, that's 6 years of "not beating the crap out of", but nonetheless, it's still mileage on the vehicle, normal wear & tear, etc.

In all those years, did he service the front hubs? That can cause the 4x4 to fail. Alternators don't last forever, especially when you don't really know what's been going on under the hood for the past 6 years.

Has it been lubed, oil changed, fuel filter changed, etc on a regular basis for the last 6 years?

These are not Toyotas, and cannot be compared to any of that lightweight foreign junk. These vehicles are made heavy, perform heavy service and require periodic maintenance.
If the maintenance is not performed, things will fail, period!
It's a hard working truck, it just needs to be maintained.
Obviously the previous owner didn't prescribe to a schedule.

Do a search on here for ESOF and you'll probably find the easy cure for the failure of 4x4.
In the mean time, manually lock the hubs and rescue your wife's stuck vehicle.
Sorry you are having problems, we'll get you through this if you let us help!!
