I need some help on what size tires to put on my 93 F150 2WD. It currently has the stock size tires and I want a little bigger. I want to go wider with maybe an inch or so more in height. I was think of a 265/70/15 or a 30/9.5/15. I do not want the tires to scrub so I need some help on what to do. Also if you have any information on BF Long Trail Radial tire that would be helpful. Those are what I am looking at and I want to make sure they are good tires.
I have a 1995 F150 2wd Long Box, I went from the stock tires to some 31x10.50R15 Mickey Thompsons on 15x8 rims. They rubbed the radius arms a little at a full lock. However, these tires kept causing problems so I now run 30x9.50R15 BFG All-Terrains.
As for the BFG Long Trail, I have heard they slip on anything wet or snowy.
Oh, just my personal opinion, try to get a wheel rim width close to the maximum recommended by the tire manufacturer for better control.
Thanks, If I go with a AT tire I will probably go with the BFG and not the LONG Trail. I can't decide whether to go with AT or a passenger tire. Do not do much offroading, just wanting to give the truck a better look.
Thanks for the sites. Not much snow here in NC. Maybe 1 or 2 times a year. Don't do much hauling other than for home projects. Probably will go with a passenger tire for a more comfortable ride.
I put a set of 31X10.5R15 on the stock rims for my 1996 F-150 regular cab. I went with the Cooper Discovery line (I had a buddy who was selling them so I got a good price) they have been very good in the snow (I live in Winnipeg Canada so I put them to the test this winter). The tires don't rub and I have enough clearance without a lift kit of any kind. I am not sure about the BFG's you referred to but I have friends who swear by their BFG all terrain’s. Remember that the larger tires will put your Speedo out a bit and you will loose a little bit of oomph.
BFG Radial Long Trails are a good gas mileage/sporty ling tire. They are not bad in the snow. Actually the BFG all season Momenta is the perfect tire for a 2wd p/u. Although they are not available in RWL.
I put some Radial Long Trails on my Jeep Cherokee about 2 months ago and then sold it and bought a 95 Bronco. I just put on some BFG A/T's last weekend. The Long Trails are significantly quieter and give you a smoother ride. They're supposed to give you longer wear than A/T's too. I like the AT's, they just look like bad mamma jammas but I'm sure I'll miss the ride on the highway of the long trails. Also I went up from 235's to 31's on my Bronco and yes, I noticed a difference in pickup and now my speedo is off by about 5 mph.
i have 32" on my wifes 95 F-150 and they rub on the radius arms at full turn right or left.if you want to go any larger than 31" i would recommend at least a 3" body lift. body lifts are cheap and don't take much to install. i lifted my 95 3" body and 4" suspension and 35" is fine but switched to aftermarket radius arms for clearance on full tilt turns.
