the other day coming up my street i was being a hoon and backed off a bit quick on the throttle, seens as i have just added a 6637 filter i can hear it more but i got a loud wooossshhh sound out the intake i know this is not good for the turbo. the reason why i ask is there any way of stopping or reducing it, i did hear somewhere that a BOV is no good for the PSD is that true. if so how have you guys gotten round this. i have a WW installed i did want the ATS housing (if that is the thing that will fix it) but the freight out here is a killer with a lot of the parts stores in the US. i dont know if they are just telling me the freight is that much and making a bit off it or what
whats your verdict fellas, do i just have to stop being a hoon or is there a fix for this.
cheers
josh
BOV does not work because we have no throttle plate. So the boost that is built has nowhere to go when you stop sending fuel to burn it via the pedal. The RPMs drop and the boost goes out the path of least resistance, in this case, the intake. This is common and you hear it more with an open filter element. It does the same thing with the stock setup and an AIS filter. You just can't hear it as much. Pretty normal and the only way to get rid of it is to stop driving like a hoon. What is a hoon?
cool thanks mike my mate and i had thought that was the case with the throttle plate but wernt sure, a "hoon" i spose one could say is aussie slang for someone driving stupidly, or stepping hard on the go pedal, we actually have hoon laws over here and if you are caught 3 times you car is confiscated, do you guys have anything like that over there
one other thing, having the boost blow back through the turbo will it be putting heaps of strain on the turbo or should the turbo beable to cope with this ok.

No we don't Josh, and we still have our guns too. About the worst I am aware of is habitual traffic offender but you keep your car while in jail. I always wanted to go down under but it looks like you folks are losing your minds down there. Oh well, all the Aussies I have met here have been great folks, so have a Merry Christmas.

They say that it is fine. I just think about what is happening and try to minimize it. Air coming out the other way tends to want to reverse the flow of the compressor. This can be a strain. It has been taken into account in the design process but cannot be good. Now surge is another story. It's all life in the turbo lane mate.
