The problem with warrenty work is that flat rated by the book on many hours a job takes and parts needed. Ford knows better when they get the bill, the dealer can't jack ford like they can an individual. A good dealer would be satisfied with that and would want to perform good warennty work to make ford look good. Some times it's just hard to find a good dealer, I'm lucky I guess in that respect. My dealer wants to sell me another truck some time as they have over the past 20 years.
Well as reported we went to the dealer we bought the Ranger from, completely different experience.
My wife had the day off so she drove the 50 minutes to the dealership.
The service manager took a drive with her to experience the problem then they drove back to the dealership, he gave her a 2008 Escape and said not to worry they would find and fix the problem and give her a call when she could come back and get the truck.
Four hours later they called her, truck is fixed she can pick it up today open til 8pm or she can come tomorrow morning.
Problem was front tires had around ten pounds more air than rear tires and because it's a 4x4 driven mostly in 2 wheel drive the back tires wear more than the fronts, this caused the transfer case to wind up.
Wow 34,000 km or I guess 28,000 miles and a little bit of extra air in the tires caused this problem.
At the end of it all, learned a valuable bit of information or these Ranger4x4s and the dealerships, the local dealership called to do follow up on our experience with them. My wife told them they earned a solid fail as far as she was concerned, they didn't fix the problem and they treated us poorly, they said thank you very much for your opinion.
Cost at the good dealership was $0 worth the trip in the end for the repair and the next new vehicle in 2012.
Nope, he had different tire presures. There was 10 pounds difference between the front and rear causing the T-case to wind up. It was checked out and fixed free of charge from the dealer he purchased the ranger from. They also gave his wife an explorer for a loaner. They had it ready to go in 4 hours. Rick is once again a happy ford/ranger owner and has found a dealer to treat him with the respect he deserves. Don't you just love it when a plan comes together ha ha.
