Almost every single person on these forums would love that, but truth is,it wouldn't be the same 4.9 as we know it.It would most likely have less torque and more horsepower, and would definitely have a shorter life span. Not to mention that it would probably be smaller in size and completely computer controlled. It just wouldn't compare to the original.
Funny you say that because my sister has an '03 Trailblazer with the 4200 I-6. It's a great little motor so far but drinks gas like my 5.8L. They drove from Maine to Va and back and averaged 16 mpgs. My '04 Expy with the 4.6L 3.73.1 axle averages 21 on the same trip.
Your absolutely correct sir, it would be a different angine.
I have owned mostly chevy's in my time and liked them. My f150 is my first 4x4. We've just had a huge dump of snow for this area and I'm super impressed at its capabilities. When it first snowed, I went out looking for deep snow because I wanted to see what my trucks limits were in the snow. To be honest, I haven't found it yet. This truck is amazing in the snow. I love this weather. A white Christmas and my amazing truck. I couldn't be happier.
I'm just itching to find someone stuck...
I'm the same way. I'm alwasy looking for someone to pull out of the muck. My parents finally bought me a hd tow strap for Christmas! Think they know me? Ha ha..
Pulled out a F250 attached to a 33' camper trailer that was stuck in the mud. This was before the locker (my power tires were on gravel, out of the mud). Then I pulled out a Heavy Duty Dodge, post Locker (in the muck). Theeeeen I tested out my truck's mudding abilities and I'm very very pleased.

I've heard some pretty good things about the GM 4.2 I keep thinking it would make a good crawler motor. There's a gm wrecker locally that has one on a crate for a good price and I keep thinking it'd fun to find something to transplant it into. Gotta love those I6's.

Bill, this I-6 4200 of GM's is like a "mini me" compared to the 300!
I think it might bolt right onto my riding lawnmower! It's a great little plant though.

tseekins, like I said, let's put it in a Ford Ranger. The 3.0L is only 170 cubes and probably has about half the power, so I'm pretty sure we can fit the I6. I think it would be a cool project! If the I6 doesn't fit, I know we can stuff the I5. Well with that said I guess the 4.0L V6 isn't that far behind the I5.. Might as well put a few mods in the 4.0L and keep a Ford in a Ford. I just really want to see an I6 in a Ranger.. ha ha.
Wonder why Chebbie doesn't put the I6 in the Colorado..?

IF you're a good fabricator, you could probably move the firewall back, extend the front, and fit in a Ford I6.But then it'd look like a pulling truck.lol.

I dunno about all that. I think a 170 I6 or 200 I6 ought to fit without that kind of fab work. What do you think??
I think a built 170 / 200 I6 would be pretty cool in a Ranger. I'd like to have one in a little single cab 80's Ranger or BroncoII. I think it would make a good puddle jumper!
Dude I soooo agree with you I had a 200Cid with 1 barrel carter carburetor in a 76 Ford Maverick with 3 on the Tree and my little 200 even with 275,000 miles and a teenager behind the wheel would take a 5.0L Mustake out of the hole. built up that'd be a righteous motor
The great thing about the GM4.2, is that if get rid of the torque management crap that protects the transmission, it has Ford 300-6 low end torque, but still produces usable power all the way upto 6000 RPM

Must have been a sick 5.0L!

..I see in your Sig you have an '87 Ranger. Care to donate? I'll give Motorhead351 a call. He loves this kind of stuff. Now, we just need the motor. <_<

I bet you miss that car, too. I thought about selling my truck, but it kinda turns my stomach upside down every time I think about it. A friend walked up to me at work the other day and asked me when I was going to buy a new one (I was sitting in my truck). I kinda grinned and said, "I think I'm going to drive this thing into the ground." He poked his head in and eye balled my odometer, showing nearly 212,000 miles. I was warming my truck up so he did hear the 300 purr. Gotta love older Fords.

To beat up to be worth it! Although I do plan to throw in a freshly rebuilt 2.9+1 Small turbo eventually
