Unusual Or Not?

I have a 2000 E150 cargo van with 4.2 engine that I bought used (3rd owner). Is it a little unusual that this work vehicle that had a cargo bulhead in it would be ordered with rear heat and air. To me it just seems like a waste and takes up room that could be used for cargo. It's also more stuff that can go wrong in the future.

Hope you guys don't mind me asking my questions. I'm new here, but very familiar and comfortable on discussion boards. I've even served as moderator on a couple.

Welcome to FTE

Your Econoline could have been purchased by a dog rescue group which would explain the bulkhead, rear A/C and heat.

One of the local Basset Hound Rescue groups I'm involved with has a Dodge Ram Van equipped just like this.

Some types of cargo (say, musical instruments or furniture) prefer to stay somewhere near room temperature. Dogs like the other fella said would be similar.

And, having had full size vans with air only in the dashboard, even the driver's comfort is compromised with single heat and air. It's a big box to heat and cool.

I had an old GMC conversion van in which the (cheap aftermarket) heater core in the rear air/heat unit started leaking. It took a piece of heater hose bent into a U shape to shut the coolant off to the rear unit. If the A/C in the back started giving you problems, you could likely also cap off the lines and run it as a single unit.

Murphy's law says any heat or A/C problems you have will be in the front, however

Good luck with the van.

George
